Kailua Kona Travel Guide

Kailua Kona is a district that stretches about 60 miles. It is located in between Kealakekua Bay and Kona International Airport. The Hualalai Volcano is situated just beneath the Kailua Kona town. It is a premium place where you can enjoy the good weather of Hawaii. Several renowned kings have made their homes in Kona Kohala Coast. These kings also have residences in the Kailua Kona town. Since missionaries arrive in Hawaii, they have built many churches in the area. Churches can be found in the fishing village and seaport. The Ali’i Drive Street can be found at the oceanfront in Kona.

There are many historic landmarks in Kona. The final years of King Kamehameha was spent here. Today, it is a bustling town with many activities. You will find shops, restaurants and nightlife entertainment sites at Kailua. If you want to explore the local history, you can visit the Hulihee Palace. Other historical sites you can visit while at Kailua Kona include Mokuaikaua Church, Kealakekua Bay, Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park and Ahuena Heiau. The region is sheltered from the winds that come from Maunaloa. The water at the Kailua Kona beach is clear and calm. While at the beach, you can watch the honu turtles coming up to the shore. You can take manta ray boat tour if you want to go scuba diving at the area. The manta ray boat tour is also suitable for people who want to go snorkeling at the ocean. Every year, the International Billfish Tournament is being held at Kailua Kona. You can travel to the nearby Holualoa town if you want to experience the cold weather. The Holualoa town has many coffee fields that produce Kona coffee. If you want to taste the Kona coffee, you can visit one of the coffee fields at Holualoa town.

The Ironman Triathlon begins at Kailua Kona every year. Participants will compete with each other in this open ocean. After they swim past the ocean, they will ride bicycle in the lava field. The contestant will ride bicycle on a bicycle trail that is about 112 miles long. After that, the participant will run a 26.2-mile course to complete the race. There are limited parking spaces in the town. You will find plenty of small shops selling all kinds of stuffs. Accommodation is available for tourists who happen to visit the site. There are several charter boat and cruises. If you want to watch the sunset, you can go to the beach.
